The Village of Mackinaw City Community Development and Zoning Department will assist with any development or business questions related to zoning, permitting, and incentives. Department Responsibilities

The Community Development and Zoning Department is responsible for the following:

  • Facilitating commercial and residential development
  • Responding to zoning issues
  • Accepting, reviewing, and approving Site Plans, Variances, and Special Land Use permits (through the Planning Commission and Zoning  Board of Appeals)
  • Accepting, reviewing, and approving Zoning Permits
  • Assisting division and combination of property
  • Assisting business permitting and licenses
  • Maintaining the Village’s Master Land Use Plan
  • Issue sign and occupancy permits
  • Enforcing the Village’s Zoning, Sign, and Blight Ordinance
  • Conducting zoning site inspections
  • Provide the Planning Commission with the information needed to take action on activities and to formulate planning and zoning policy recommendations to the Village Council
  • Maintaining Planning Commission records, Site Plans, Special Use  Permits, Planned Unit Development Plans, Variances, and Rezoning requests
  • Participating in the development and implementation of short and long-term plans related to capital improvements, economic development, land use planning, parks planning, and the Master Planning
