Criminal Activity Warning

Chief Wyman would like to remind the residents of Mackinaw City of various telephone and e-mail scams which are becoming more common in our area. Many complaints from this activity involve residents who have been offered money. Many of these scams ask for financial information, including social security numbers, bank account numbers, and credit card information. The Mackinaw City Police Department asks that residents not give out personal or financial information over the telephone or via e-mail.

Many of these telemarketers gather this information for identity theft and to obtain money from accounts. If you think you may have doubts about your account you are asked to call your credit card company or bank to verify that no illegal activity has taken place.

You can register your home, business, or cellular phone numbers at the National Do Not Call Registry at www.donotcall.gov or by calling 1-888-382-1222.

CALL 911
In 1997 the Mackinaw City Police Department joined 911 dispatch services with 13 other police agencies in the counties of Cheboygan, Emmet, and Charlevoix. This created the CCE Central Dispatch Authority. This was created to better serve the needs of Northern Michigan.
All emergency services are dispatched from the CCE facility in Petoskey. This includes Police, Fire, and Ambulance service. To contact an officer 24 hours a day just dial 911.
NOTICE:
Unlike other systems, 911 is also used as a NON-EMERGENCY number. There is ample staff to handle all emergency and non-emergency calls to 911 . Please use this number to contact our officers for any reason, at any time throughout the day and night.
NOTE:
If you are calling from out of the tri-County area please call
the CCE Administrative number : (231) 439-3300
